La Rochelle is surrounded by lush, manicured gardens and the indigenous bush of St Lucia, close to the St Lucia Estuary, a world-renowned site boasting the greatest concentration of hippo and crocodiles in South Africa. The estuary is a fisherman s paradise with game fishing, rock and surf fishing and spear fishing. In addition, beach-goers can enjoy birdwatching, boating, sunbathing, volleyball, picnics and relaxing walks. Turtle breeding season starts in October and continues through to April the following year while whale-watching season is from June to December.
